3 RD ANNUAL PURPLE HEART RIDEBlue Knights, Maryland IX, is conducting its third annual motorcycle ride for the wounded servicemen and women who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. These brave young men and women are being cared for at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. The police escorted ride travels from Sykesville, Maryland, to the Bethesda Naval Hospital. To participate, each rider is asked to donate at least $25 (a greater amount if their heart so dictates). Donations will be taken to the Bethesda Naval Hospital where they will be presented tothe Armed Forces Foundation to benefit these Purple Heart recipients. Registration runs from 7 - 10 AM at the Freedom Park onl Raincliffe Road in Sykesville. For more information, check out the website at www.bkmdix.org .
MAINTENANCE PLUS We’ll start with a bike maintenance class in the morning at Carole’s in Hagerstown, and then go on a lunch ride into PA, which will be led by Ruth Bookmiller. COVERED BRIDGE RIDE IN PA Meeting Point: US Rt. 1 (Conowingo Rd.) & MD Rt. 136 Royal Farm Store at 10:00a.m. This tour originates in Harford County , MD and jproceeds through Pennsylvania Dutch countryof Lancaster and Chester counties, crossing six covered bridges. Then we drop down into Cecil County,MD, riding through bucolic Fair Hill, through the County Seat of Elkon on down to Chesapeake Cit, situated on the busy Chesapeake& Delaware Canal for lunch. Distance is approcimately 90-95 miles and takes about 3 hours. For those coming long distance, accommodations can be found around Bel Air, Aberdeen or closer to Baltimore. CAMP JOY BREAKFAST AND POKER RUN Join our sisters in PA for this charitable function east of Reading (especially do-able for central MD and DE gals). Come up Friday night, then meet at the Blue Comet M/C Clubhouse on Mensch Road in Skippack, PA at 9 a.m. for breakfast. From there, participate in the poker run to Camp Joy, a camp for retarded children. Hot dog lunch, music, games, etc. at the end of the ride. WOODLAND FERRY RIDE This tour is mapped out in the guide sold at Hagerstown Convention. It covers the lower and crosses into Maryland, sort of central Delmarva Peninsula. The Woodland Ferry evokes childhood memories for me personally, and is historically free! It crosses the Nanticoke River. This year Marge has planned dinner and entertainment on Friday night, and a motorcycle scavenger hunt in some of the spookiest and oldest graveyards in her Ashtabula, OH area.
